Im wondering if I may have a hiatal hernia. I have been taking protonix for GERD for 8 weeks and my reflux has actually gotten worse. I have been avoiding all of the foods youre not supposed to eat with GERD, but every thing causes me heartburn, even bread or plain crackers. Within the past few days, Ive been having chest pains on my left side that feels like a burning, sore, heaviness, that's pretty constant. I have an appointment with a GI doc a week from nowadays to have an endoscopy. On a side note, Im 28 and 100 lbs so weight is not an issue. Could this be a hiatal hernia or just severe GERD? Have you had chest pain or what are some other symptoms you might have had? Also, what causes hernias?
