Im wondering if I might have a hiatal hernia. I have been taking protonix for GERD for 8 weeks and my reflux has in fact gotten worse. I have been avoiding all of the foods youre not supposed to eat with GERD, but every thing causes me heartburn, even bread or plain crackers. Within the past few days, Ive been having chest pains on my left side that feels like a burning, sore, heaviness, that's pretty constant. I have an appointment with a GI doc a week from today to have an endoscopy. On a side note, Im 28 and 100 lbs so weight isn't an issue. Could this be a hiatal hernia or just severe GERD? Have you had chest pain or what are some other symptoms you might have had? Also, what causes hernias? Thanks
