Treatment For Hiatal Hernia

Usually, treatment for hiatal hernia is suggested according to the symptoms as same as suggested for GERD. In this, a patient should change its lifestyle, should do medication therapy and if required, then opt for surgery. The most important and required cure of this is to change the routine life style and add workout in daily life. Prescribed and non-prescribed drugs can be used to cure hernia. In rare cases, a patient has to choose surgery.

The second type of hernia is para-esophegal hernia, which is discovered in very rare cases. This type of problem occurs when the stomach swells and bulges out in the chest cavity and remain their all the time. The severe case of para-esophegal hernia can cause problem in swallowing of food into stomach. In this type of situation, a patient requires a surgical procedure. During the time of operating on a patient, the surgeon moves the swelled and bulged stomach back into the abdominal cavity and then tightens the esophageal hiatus to make it smaller in size. By doing this, the stomach no longer remains bulging out into chest cavity. Finally, the surgeon confirms that the esophagus is firmly attached to the diaphragm or not.

The other tips for the treatment for hiatal hernia, which are suggested by the doctors and surgeons to prevent hernia are, eat smaller meals because a full stomach can cause excessive pressure on lower esophageal sphincter, which can cause the refluxes into esophagus. If a person is overweight, then it is necessary to reduce weight because fatness may cause backflow of contents of stomach into throat. Smoking should be stopped because smoking can cause weakness of LES.

A person should sleep a few inches upper than his/her body level. Sleeping with placing the head higher than the level of body reduces the pressure on stomach so that the partially digested food presses on the LES. One should avoid the habits of eating food two-three hours before going to sleep. It may cause pressure on LES, which raise the problem of refluxes in stomach. Avoid bending and stooping after having meal. Lift things by winding your knees, and not by bending stomach. A person should avoid junk foods and beverages because these types of eatables may trigger GERD. In addition, these foods weaken the LES. The foods, which should be avoided are alcohol, coffee, cola drinks, tea, things that contain caffeine, foods like chocolate and citrus fruits and juices like tomato etc.

By adopting all these suggestion, a person can easily get rid of hiatal hernia. The treatment for severe hernia is surgeries and people can consult some other treatment for hiatal hernia.
